TITLE:  Mechanic II   

 

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt        

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

High school graduate or equivalent.  Three years experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or two years technical training in the automotive field.  Must be able to obtain NC commercial driver’s license with endorsements.  Must be able to obtain NC vehicle inspector license.  Ability to acquire skill in the performance of increasingly complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment.  Preferred minimum of two current ASE certifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Diagnoses and performs more complex vehicle repairs.

 

Tests repaired and replaced equipment for compliance with safety and quality standards.

 

Performs preventive maintenance procedures in accordance to state guidelines.

 

Performs North Carolina Vehicle inspection of buses and other school vehicles.

 

Provides instruction on repair and maintenance practices to Mechanics I.

 

Informs supervisor of parts to be needed.

 

Available for after-hours emergencies on-call with service vehicle.

 

Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.

Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to perform medium lifting exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. 

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Must obtain North Carolina School Bus Inspection Certification.

Must provide basic automotive tool kit.
