TITLE:        School Counselor                                                   

 

FLSA STATUS:                         Exempt

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                  

A 48+ hour Master’s degree in Counseling from an accredited institution with certification in school counseling.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Creates a comprehensive school counseling program based on the American School Counselor National Model.

 

Discusses the comprehensive school counseling program and program goals with the school administrator annually

 

Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model action plan and results reports templates   with the use of current individual school data.

 

Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders.

 

Maintains current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders.

 

Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity.

 

School counselors will spend majority (80%) of their time delivering developmentally appropriate activities and services directly to students or indirectly for students as a result of the school counselor’s interaction with others. These activities and services help students develop mindsets & behaviors for success and improve student achievement, attendance and discipline. The remaining time (20%) will be spent  program planning, managing, and assessing.

Assess

¦To achieve the best results for students, school counselors regularly assess their program to:

 

¦ Measures results of the school counseling program activities and shares results as    

   appropriate.

 

¦ Conducts the School Counseling Program Assessment and Annual Results Reports

 

Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.

 

Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
